Many 401k plan participants feel unprepared for retirement, and they are looking for answers. Fiduciaries have an obligation to assist their plan participants in using their 401k plans to achieve their best chance of retirement readiness, which includes basics such as why they should save, how much they should save, and understanding the potential of diversification and asset allocation principles.

At this seminar, you will explore a sample education campaign and discuss how integrating education with a modernized 401k plan design can help your plan participants prepare now for retirement. You’ll also learn what Congress and the Department of Labor’s proposed 2010 standards will require for participant communication and disclosures.

In addition to her position at Great West Retirement Services, Joan serves on the Government Relations Committee and the Legislative and Regulatory Task Force of SPARK and currently chairs its Fee Disclosure Task Force. She frequently speaks and writes about qualified plan operation issues, and co-authored the 401(k) Answer Book, published in the Aspen Publishers Answer Book Series.

Joan received her J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law, and has practiced law in the employee benefits area.
